RE: [cobalt-users] telnet problems...

Shawn,

I recently had this problem with a RaQ4 that I was setting up. I tried putting manual entries in the /etc/hosts file. Telnet worked after that, but FTP started giving strange errors. I also changed the /etc/resolv.conf file to point to a correct nameserver (this can also be done through the UI), and that seemed to be more effective, although I never did get FTP to work correctly. I ended up just putting the darn thing on a static IP and working from there.

Try putting a valid nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf first. Then, if that doesn't work, add the DNS entries into /etc/hosts. Unfortunately, I can't help you beyond that. Has anyone else found a successful remedy for this problem?

anyone point me to an example I might follow? Or a clue how to start?

By the way, ftp takes a year and a half... so maybe this is the problem.

I'm wondering if it's the DNS problem mentioned before on other threads,
where the Qube is waiting for a reverse lookup that doesn't get found
(because of the 192.x address.) If so, it takes about 45 seconds to get a
login prompt through telnet.
