RE: [cobalt-users] incremental backup, FTP download by windows client for RAQ4R

Thanks for the info Carrie,

Seems too simple now ;-). The only question I am left with is what you said
about incremental. To define what I mean by incremental I want to a full
backup (of all directories I choose) and then every backup after that
initial one I want the backup to FTP down what files have changed (eg.
edited, created, deleted etc.). So 10Gb in this instance would not be 10Gb
all the time as the initial backup would be 10Gb and any backup after that
would only be what changed. Of course the restore function is more complex
in this case, but I know s/w such as Retrospect will perform an incremental
backup to a tape drive an automatically restore the most recent version
100%. Only I don't have a tape drive at my co-location company and I need an
off-site backup, so I wish to use the same incremental backup technique and
the auto restore function but via FTP to an off-site location (eg. My remote
cable client).

The reason I need to do these incremental backups is that my cable
connection only allows 3Gb per month transfer and is something like $0.25
per Mb after that. You can see how silly bandwidth is in my country. I know
this bandwidth limit will have to be addressed but at the moment I am
looking for a temporary solution for a few months, then I will more than
likely just pay an off-site backup company $80-120 per month to FTP backup
my whole server.
