Everyone I've ever seen who's used the CMU has never gotten it to 
work right.
Just think, with all the time and frustration you've spent trying to 
figure this out, you could have used the Shell Tools and a simple tar 
file to migrate the old server to the new one and been done with it.
(The Shell Tools are installed on all current-updated machines. If 
your machines aren't updated with all patches, that's what you need 
to be worrying about before putting user data onto a sitting duck 
server.)

Sorry that I can't help you with CMU, but I *can* tell you that the 
only way to make sure it's done right is to do it yourself.
