Hey all,
I am in need of upgrading to Perl 5.6.1 on a Raq3. I've unpacked the
tarball and run the configuration and make.
But before I run the install I was wondering if there is anything I should
watch out for. Has anyone gone 5.6.x yet and if so what happened? Did you
have any problems? If so what were they and what were the fixes?
From a lot of users experience on here, upgrading Perl on a RaQ2 or
3 is a bit of a minefield. I have heard reports of the Cobalt
interface failing, which was enough to put me off. The safest way
would be to install Perl 5.6.1 *alongside* the old version. i.e. put
the new Perl binary in /usr/local/bin or something so you are no
over-writing the old binary.
I suggest you search the archives on this one, and they decide
whether you want to risk it!
Regards,
Glen
