I had good results with a package called "Jawmail", also to be found on
sourceforge. It had a pretty simple install process and didn't require
hacking the cobalt to death.

You might check out Neomail http://neomail.sourceforge.net/ I have heard
that several people here are using it with Cobalt Raq's and we plan on
giving it a shot here over the next few days on a RAQ3i or RAQ4r. It
seems
very straight forward and from what I understand doesn't have any banner
ad's.

Brad -
As you may have seen from another post - this has been
discussed *A LOT* in the archives. Lots of people use
the free, downloadable (and ad-supported) version of
EmuMail from (http://www.emumail.com). I spent weeks
trying to install it, and finally had to get Emu tech
to do it for $200. And even still, I had to disable
FastCGI, so it's running very slow. I'm hoping to
find out about how to update my Apache to help things.
Anyway, if you don't mind your hosting clients seeing
a banner ad for another hosting company, you could
send them to http://www.mail2web.com - it's free, and
very fast. . .again, the only disadvantage is that
this FREE service is provided by another hosting
company, so your clients may see their ads and be
"lured" away while checking their email! (the very
reason I didn't resort to this!)
Also - if you have PHP, you can do Horde
(http://www.horde.org). Another good one is found at
http://www.althepal.com
Hope this summary "re-post" will help update the
archives.
