Interesting paradox.  Perhaps you should consider installing some of the
files from source instead of RPM until you at least get some of the
dependencies out of the way.  You never mentioned what server you're
installing on, but for what it's worth I've installed Apache 1.3.20 from
source w/out major headaches on the RaQ2 and RaQ3.
