[cobalt-users] ftp a .tar.gz as ascii or ftp?

Folks;
This is (maybe) a dumb question, but necessary to ask. Pardon the bandwidth
usage :-)

I need to ftp a file.tar.qz file off a machine. Should I ftp it as a binary
or ascii file???

My *opinion* is that it should be a binary, owing to the tarball and
compression stuff that's been done, but if anyone can render a definitive
verdict on this I'd be grateful.

There's almost *priceless* data in this file and I don't want
to...errr...foobar what's in there, so it's definitely worthwhile to check
this issue first.

Oh lest I forget, the data currently resides on a Cobalt machine! <laugh>

TIA & Regards to all,
-Colin
