Hi List!
I am currently trying to connect my Raq4i to a Terminal Server using a
serial cable. I didn't really achieve much connecting it directly to the
TS, so I ran some tests with my Notebook. Again, without success.
After looking into /etc/inittab, I set my Notebook to 115200 bps, after
doing this, I was able to see all messages during the reboot process,
but still, no login prompt appeared. Looking at /etc/gettydefs didn't
really bring light into my problem.
AFAIK, getty is handling all serial port things from runlevel 1 upwards.
Anything below is done using Kernel parameters. I don't know which kind
of bootloader these boxes are using (GRUB? Lilo?), so I couldn't check
this.
When debugging using strace, this following output appears:
[root /root]# ps aux | grep getty
root 762 0.0 0.3 1136 464 ? S 11:05 0:00 /sbin/getty ttyS0
[root /root]# strace -p 762
open("/dev/ttyS0", O_RDWR
and there it kind of hangs.
Did anyone of you have the same problem? My Kernel is 2.2.16C24_III.
TIA
André
