RE: [cobalt-users] Sudden freezes

I do not have physical access to the server. However, I am cc'ing the
support department at my ISP on this e-mail. As it seems, there is no log of
events at the time the system "locks up". I really can't see how anything
like that could happen. Does anyone have any further ideas? As for the RaQ's
hardware condition, it was just purchased. -- Jonathan

Or possibly network issues...

Do any of your logs have any entries during the exact time of the freeze? Do
you have physical access to the machine? What you want to find out is wether
it merely *appears* to be freezing, ie you can't connect to it via network,
or whether the machine itself is actually freezing. If everything returns to
normal after a few seconds, it strikes me as unlikely that the raq itself
would be freezing. I've never seen a machine lock up, then suddenly come
back to life as if nothing happened.

If you find that the machine itself is not actually freezing up, it could be
your NIC (either end), your hub/switch (either end), routers (either end),
your machine, etc etc etc.

How long is the "freeze" ? If just a few seconds, you are most likely
experiencing network timeouts. It could be your NIC, hub... etc etc etc. Can
you ping the machine when it's frozen?
