OK I think I finally figured this one out, so if anyone else is
having the same problems, give it a try!
Firstly a description of the problem(s) (for the benefit for the
digest readers).
catchall not working
not able to send mail to user aliases "User unknown"
receiving "config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)"
Firstly the dns settings I use;
A - domain.com - IP
A - www.domain.com - IP with automatic reverse generation on
A - mail.domain.com - IP
MX - domain.com - mail.domain.com - high priority
Right, now to the site configuration, note this is on a RAQ4i
with all latest patches and kernel installed, I do not know
if this will work on any other RAQ's
First go to Site Management and select your site, go to Site
Settings. Make sure your Web Server Aliases field is empty
and your domain name (e.g. domain.com) is in the Email Server
Aliases field. Save Changes.
Now go to Server Management -> Control Panel -> Email Server
-> Parameters, make sure that the domain is in the Relay
List (e.g. domain.com), in the Hosts/Domain Aliases list enter
the hostname.domain address (e.g. www.domain.com). Save Changes
OK, you should now be able to setup a catchall address in the
format @www.domain.com for the required user, all user aliases
should work, all mail sent to user@xxxxxxxxxx and
user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx should be recived ok.
It appears that some of the settings here go against other
information I have read on these problems, all I know is that
this method works ok for me, I cannot guarantee you will have
success with it.
