I few weeks back, I installed the Kernel 4.0.1 update, and it caused my
machine to go into a continual reboot. I've been running smoothly off the
ROM Kernel ever since, but I can't reboot. I'm assuming I'm not the only
person who had this problem, because 4webspace.com posted a message on their
homepage warning people not to install the update.
I finally had the time, and guts to try a few things, and I found a
solution.
The kernel that is installed with the update PKG was:
kernel-2.2.16C24
I tried to install a newer kernel RPM found on Cobalts FTP:
kernel-2.2.16C25_III-1.i386.rpm
It didn't fix the problem, so I installed an older RPM, also found on
Cobalts FTP:
kernel-2.2.14C10-1.i386.rpm
I had to use this command:
==============
rpm -i --force kernel-2.2.14C10-1.i386.rpm
==============
As far as I can tell, my server is running fine. I am able to reboot and it
comes back up.
Hope this helps some of you out. It sounds like I'm not the only one who had
problems.
