But you can't assume anything. If he needs to do homework, it would be
best to state that 'homework' process up-front to make sure that your
version and his version match. Agreed?

Yeppers, agree there - but there's always room to put in some
additional details just to make sure that you and the person asking
the question are on the same page. It might be stating the obvious to
the poster, but it doesn't hurt; because it might be telling the
poster things he hadn't thought of or didn't know to do, and will
provide valuable notes in the archives.
Sorry if I came off rude in my response to Glenn regarding your email;
I didn't mean to. I was just frightened that he might have done
something (like installing the mysql package) that would cause your
method to mess things up. We didn't know at the time (and still don't)
so it's better to be safe than sorry.
