Grab the source code from www.mysql.com, gunzip it, untar it and read the
instructions and consult the manual at www.mysql.com and decide what
configuration options work best for you.

You are correct, PostgreSQL is pre-installed. PostgreSQL has no connection
to those companies though. Inprise sells a RDBMS called Interbase.

By default they run on separate ports so unless you manually configure MySQL
to run on the same port as PostgreSQL they won't interfere with each other
in any way.

Perhaps you don't have a human PostgreSQL user, but the RaQ4 stores user and
site data in a PostgreSQL database. Unless you plan on abandoning the
Cobalt GUI do not disable PostgreSQL. In any case, I'd keep PostgreSQL
installed. It's a much more advanced RDBMS than MySQL and you may find that
it's better suited for a specific project someday or that a client requests
access to it.
