I've been all over the list archives with this one, and I really can't seem
to find the answer. It feels like a totally stupid problem to have, and I
realize it must have something to do with the way Cobalt universalizes
"users", since I don't have this problem with regular old Linux boxes, but
here it goes:
I create a virtual site www.virtualsite.com.
In it, I create one user, 'johndoe' with the password 'foo' and give him
full access (all boxes checked except "Suspend User") including Site
Administrator priv.
I fire up my trusty FTP client and connect to virtualsite.com with the
username 'johndoe' and password 'foo'. I'm given johndoe's home directory.
I 'cd' over to /home/sites/www.virtualsite.com/web/ and attempt to upload
another file of a different name (foo.html, say), but the FTP server comes
back with "Permission Denied".
I, johndoe, the Site Administrator for www.virtualsite.com, do not have
permission to upload files to my web site. Why? Isn't this how it's
supposed to work? What am I missing about Cobalt's little paradigm of web
server administration that isn't making this all fit correctly in my
apparently retarded brain?
