I am experiencing the same problem,
Within a virtual site, I have created a directory in the site
administrator's user account and then created symbolic links to that
directory from the home directories of each user.
When connecting to the ftp server as admin or the virtual site
administrator, I am able to view and follow these symbolic links fine, but
when logging to the ftp server as a standard user I can see the symbolic
link but cannot access it.
I have checked all of the permissions for the relevant directories and they
have read and executable set for everyone.
It would be very useful to have a shared area on the ftp site for every
user to access, and this functionality doesn't appear to be readily
available in the standard configuration.
For security reasons, I do not want to make everyone a site administrator.
Tony.

You are right but I will not be the user and we want that the things
be as simple as possible for a standard user :
he launches its ftp client, logs and is immediately in the upload
directory (defined by its user id)
