Hi there,
I'm not currently using ODBC on desktop to connect to our Interbase server
(we have a RaQ4i). But! I have done some experimental work with the system
in the interest of being... well interested :-)
Discussion on the Developer list, seems to indicate that a popular solution
is to download the server and client / IBConsole from Borland
(http://www.borland.com/devsupport/interbase/opensource/) and install that
on your Windows desktop (not so useful if you're a Mac developer!!). Develop
the databases locally and then throw them at your server when complete!
When it comes to administering the database remotely, consider the following
products:
Interbase Workbench (http://www.interbaseworkbench.com)
IB Console (see above)
Zeos Library (http://www.zeoslib.org/)
Incidentally (while I am thinking of it) you may need to add or uncomment a
line from your services file on your development machine and RaQ
(\windows\services and /etc/services respectively):
gds_db 3050/tcp # Interbase client service
Good luck!!
