One of our RAQ3i's was prone to locking up now and again. Recently it would
not come back up after a reboot, but after attaching a serial cable I was
able to fsck the partitions and it is fine now.

It made me think that it might have been disk problems causing it to lock up
in the past.

Howver, the last time it locked up, I noticed that fan had slowed down a lot
and as I was trying to move it from one rack to another, the fan kicked back
into action. The fan had been making loud whirring noises occasionally but
would then revert back to silient mode for the most part.

I logged into the GUI and saw that the temperature was 39 degrees. Once the
fan had been running for a few minutes the temperature returned to 25
degrees and can go up to 29 degrees.

The manual says that the operating environment is 0 to 40 degrees. I am
guessing that when our CPU hit 40 and beyond it locked up.

I e-mailed European support via the web site with a request for some spare
fans and they are despatching them now. I recommend that people do like so
at least you have one or two spares around. You need to specify what RAQ you
have as the fans may be different for each.

Gordon.
