I'm pretty sure this hasn't been asked before, cannot find any records in
the archives.
My software coder is currently trying to generate an ecommerce system that
runs across many virtual sites but which uses a central database storing
100% of the data potentially required, and individual db's on each virtual
site storing data relevant only to the individual client. It is being
written with ASP (as he is a MSCD) but we have a specific hurdle to cross.
We need to be able to automatically "push" data from the central db into
each client db at a predefined time each day, based upon data changes made
within the central db, in the form of an automatic update. This would
obviously need there to be an ASP script called and executed on the main db
site at a predefined time each and every day, ie on a schedule.
Our question is whether this would be possible, and how to go about setting
it up. Would we need to use a perl script, could it be done in Java, or
what, to actually initiate the ASP control script? The ASP script
automatically ends it's own process upon completion, so it is not sitting
open 24 hours a day.
Does anyone think this would be possible, and could you give us a pointer as
to where to start.
We've taken a RAQ4 specifically to run our "system" on, but both of us are
completely new to Linux etc. (My man says he'd have been able to set it up
on a windblows box in a jiffy, but I persuaded him to go for a box with less
security leaks! oh yeah and one which costs 1/3 the price!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
