Don't feel bad, we've all "been there" in one way or another.

What is the file extension? Is it .gzip .zip or .z? (or any other of a
few possible variations)
> Do I have to install a zip program on my Raq3?
No, gzip (and also zcat I think, although I've never personally used
zcat)are installed by default.
The man page for gzip is better than many I've read, in fact its
downright informative!! :-)
I recommend it highly, and after careful reading of that page you should
be good to go.
The man page for tar comes to mind as well, since many files are tarred
then zipped to produce a filename like foo.tar.gz
Was the file you're trying to unzip created in the M$ world or do you
believe (know) it was created in the *NIX world?
The reason I ask is because if it was created in the M$ world, unzip the
thing on a PC and use ftp (if abailable on your system)or if you use
(ssh via secure crt for example), upload it to your pwd via your
terminal session.
