Bayhawk, this message isn't targeting you specifically; I just wanted to
quote the above text. I know this wasn't the last message in the thread,
but I want to make a point and then kindly request that this thread be moved
to http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ since that is a better forum for
discussing the intricacies of dedicated hosting and more people will see,
care about and participate in the thread.

Hosting companies are a lot like restaurants with all you can eat lunch
buffets. The restaurant owner knows how much people will eat and prices the
buffet accordingly. Some restaurants won't have as wide a selection of menu
items, some will be busy during certain times of the day, some will have
lower quality food, some won't have a staff that speaks the same language as
you, some will be out of food when you go up to the buffet, some will cost
less than others, some will charge you extra for beverages and desserts,
some will be in dirty buildings in unsafe neighborhoods and some will be out
of business in a few months. Some are also hoping that you'll come back
more often, you'll recommend the restaurant to friends and you'll come back
for regularly priced dinners and drinks after work. You are all smart
enough to see the analogies in the hosting business.

One final note - some hosting companies operate their hosting business as a
loss leader for other services such as programming, development, consulting
and server administration.
