Hi,
I've been getting the SMTP (mail) server is not responding email from my
RaQ3i.
I have followed the instructions in the email and it does not seem to be
a CPUload error, so it seems that the coveted Jeff Lasman fix (Aug 28,
2000) isn't applicable here.
Here are the possible causes:
1. I have a client using the built-in Cobalt list management. It
may be coincidental, but the problems seem to coincide with this being
implemented.
2. (Probably more likely) The company were I have the RaQ housed
moved the server and changed the IP # (no, they didn't tell me, but
that's a side issue). I can't begin to think of what type of errors
this may cause if things weren't re-configured (which I fear to be the
problem with sendmail).
I checked through a recent maillog (not that i understand much of it) and
these two errors stick out:
Apr 14 09:45:02 www imapd[7446]: Login
failure user=Active_Monitor_69 host=localhost [127.0.0.1]
Apr 14 11:00:19 www sendmail[10462]: gethostbyaddr(209.227.195.12)
failed: 2
I don't like the first one because I thought this was more or less
a routine that takes place wholly within my server
I REALLY don't like the second one because the IP# is the old one, not
the new one assigned since the move.
My (limited) knowledge leads me to believe that I need to make sure that
the IP# was changed for sendmail, but it don't know where/how to make
sure.
Cobalt Tech is working on this, but it is taking time. I also have
the hosting company verifying and sending me a copy of the DNS Zone info
for my server. It seems prudent that I verify the MX record.
I have also gone over all the resources available to me including this
list (and archives), sendmail.org, Cobalt knowlegdebase. Now I
feel confident to ask the real experts.
Thanks in advance,
Howard
