Re: [cobalt-users] RaQ vs Something Else

if you're just going to use it as a "generic" server.

If I should just stick with a RaQ, that's cool, but if I should look at
something else (1RU tall), don't hesitate to make suggestions. Thanks.

If you don't derive a benefit from the GUI, don't get a Cobalt product. The GUI is their primary attraction for the market they target. Instead, go check out:

www.valinux.com
www.relion.com
www.penguincomputing.com
www.aslab.com
www.dell.com
www.ibm.com

and anyone else that sells Linux-compatible-certified servers.

I just saw a refurbished Dell PowerEdge 1400 (one PIII-800, 256MB RAM, one 36GB 10,000-rpm SCSI drive, dual-CPU capable, 1U or 2U, dual Intel PRO/100 Ethernet, etc.) for $1,100. And you can get some *very* serious 1U boxes from one of these suppliers.

The Cobalt GUI is a great thing, but it is the *primary* attractor for these servers. If you don't need it, then I see no reason for you to buy a Cobalt server.
