[cobalt-users] RE: cobalt-users digest, Vol 1 #2607 - 17 msgs

I'm about to install my first Raq4 and would like to know if anyone has any
> helpful tips as to what I should be doing before I start adding my clients
> web sites on the server.

My tip is that, the standard that I use is the initals of the domain and
then the naming standard of your choice.
Example superrag.com = sr.wjohns (username) = william.johnson@xxxxxxxxxxxx,
the Raq will not allow you to create 2 dupe names so if it reports a error
message, simply add a 1 or 2.

Hope this helps

You should specify it in your htaccess configuration file. example :

# Access file
#order allow, deny
#allow from all
require valid-user
Authname 'Prohibited Site'
Authtype Basic
AuthUserFile /home/sites/sitename/users/web/secure/.htpasswd

In which case, your password file would reside in
/home/sites/sitename/users/web/secure/.htpasswd

It checked out fine for me.

Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi everyone!

I want to change the NameVirtualHost of one IP address. Because when I
access the IP number, I can see the first site created on that IP number.
Now I want to have a empty page when accessing this IP number.

So I think I have to change the NameVirtualHost in
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.cong. But when I move :

NameVirtualHost 123.456.789.000

To the correct Virtual Site, it won't work. And a day later the Cobalt
webinterface overwrites the httpd.conf, so the NameVirtualHost is back to
the wrong virtual site.

Anyone what to do to change this ?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Hans

they have to setup an MX, when they forget that E-mail will never work.

Onderwerp: [cobalt-users] Email Problem With One Domain On RaQ3

Ok gang.. strange one... I had three domains DNS set up tonight by my
server farm admin.. (they handle the dns to the box) one of them, no matter
what I try, will not accept email.. I get a "this address is not acceptable
to your SMTP server" response to any mail to that domain.. All others
working fine...

Any ideas? Not sure when the DNS is outside the box.. do they need to setup
an MX record to the domain as well.. could this be something they forgot or
goofed on?

I'm doing it exactly the same for each domain and all work but this one..
(Setup via GUI...)

Any help would be appreciated.. I have several "junk" domains on the server
and a few "important" one's... of course, this one is important...

Thanks in advance
Wayne Sagar

My first question would be what features would you want?

I use register.com, only because it was the first one I stumbled across, and
so far I've not had any reason to switch.

They allow you to set A, MX, and CNAME records and SOA for your domains.
You cannot set PTR records. I've written to them and asked about PTR
records, but I did not get the feeling that the feature would be forthcoming
anytime soon.

Their customer service appears to be good. Quick responses (a day or two)
to questions placed via the forms on their site.

So far, I've not had any reliability problems with them.

But as I said, I have used no others to judge them by.

Hope this helps.

You can download 30-day trial version and try for yourself.

I tried it on RaQ 4... Good stuff, but I am fine using 3 other methods (one
of which is Webalizer) which are free. I could not justify any reason to
buy Urchin

I have about given up getting the FP 2000 extensions to work with form
posting.
I need some help on finding a form processor that will send an email to a
specified email address for form receipts.

Can anyone point to something that is not exploited by Spammers?

I don't know how to code/compile, but can do basic stuff with PICO as far
as modifying text files (replacing varibales).

I am a real newbie when it comes to that sort of stuff.

Pricy! Ain't it? ;)

Just to think, I could get 128 MB 133MHz SDRAM for my standard systems for
$40! What a difference...

Good thing I got my Raq2 with 128MB right out of the box! ;)

rpc.nfsd said "nfssvs.c : function not implemented"

what function?
I dunno...

I think it exported, but this time when I tried from remote computer then it
got an Permission Denied message. Where the hell I am making a mistake?

I've used Bulk-Register.com ($12 a pop) for some time now and I'm happy with

had no less than 3 of their competitors (registers) calling/email me about

you
didn't hear that from us... They all (of course) were just calling me to
offer
*their* services instead. Ha, at no less than double what I've paid for

Ok, here's 2 cents, when creating user names, never use any of the
following:

 webmaster, info , help, order,orders ,support,sales
or any username that is a comman name or word with less than 5 letters,

this will save you from a ton of random spam ;)

>From a security perspective, there is also a fair argument to mke all your
email addresses aliases to usernames that are diffent and more obscure,

ie, for user joe@somewhere, make joe1234 the real user , and joe@ an
alias, then people won't be guessing user accounts from links on web pages
;)

http://www.stargateinc.com 10usd/year, discounts if you purchase 2 or
more domains (8/yr/domain). I've been using it, no hidden costs, nor
anything. It's running on NT using ASP, shitty to me, but it's cheap and
usually they don't have problems.
