[cobalt-users] Email problem (RaQ3)
- Subject: [cobalt-users] Email problem (RaQ3)

- Date: Mon Apr 16 04:57:39 2001
- List-id: Mailing list for users to share thoughts on Cobalt products. <cobalt-users.list.cobalt.com>
It seems we cannot get email forwarded to (from) a specific domain. Also,
when we submit a test form from any site on this server (RaQ3), it ignores
email addresses from that domain. Direct email to or from the "bad" domain
works. The problem only started about a month (or so) ago - we've had the
server for 7 months. Any ideas how I can fix this or what happened to cause
this? Please help...

Hi All,
A client today who has a site on my RaQ3 which he uses just for email, asked
me if he can setup a script ( not sure what language ) that would be run on
a different server to create pop ( user ) accounts in the system, basically
so he could run some type of free popmail service. I was un sure if this
would work or if doing something like this could stuff up my server? Any
ideas.

I have FTP running and I can't log in from the outside. I can login fron the
private side, but can't from the rest of the world. Well only one site can
log in. Verry confusing.
I talkd to Sun about this and they said "It is because you have DYNDNS and
they use cnames. "
This used to work before the 6.1 upgrade, I think not really sure.
Any ideas of how to get FTP working on the Qube3.

Hi,
While doing a routine portscan of my RaQ4, I noticed that port 44658 is
running SSH 1.5-1.2.27.
I know for a fact that I didn't set that up, as I'm running OpenSSH 2.1.1 on
a completely different port.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this is?
Thanks,

Renata,
I don't really know where the problem is, but we can certenly figure that
out. If you need help, write me.
I had a problem just like this one, but the SERVER wouldn't run at all
(ASP), so I reinstalled the Cobalt Server (with the CD) and it worked fine,
now the only issue (not really an issue) is to setup all the accounts, DNS
Services, Cobalt Updates, everything! It makes you get tired after a
while... But that's our job! That's why we get paid for... to work right?
:))
Have a nice day,
Rafael

Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi,
We have two RaQ4 servers, and wish to transfer all virtual sites, users and
DNS zones from the existing one to the new one.
I know that the CMU migration utility does all virtual sites and users, but
I don't know if it does the following:
* does it copy the data from each virtual site, and the stats?
* does it also copy all DNS zones?
Thanks,
Loryan

I can not seem to get .htaccess and .htpasswd to work
I have searched the archives, tried everything I could find/think of, and I
still end up with:
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable
to complete your request.
The odd thing is I had this working until I had to rebuild the server.
Is there something I am missing? forgot to do?
Info:
RaQ3i rebuilt from OS restore cd, all updates/patches applied.
.htaccess
AuthPAM_Enabled off
AuthUserFile /home/sites/site7/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName Authorized Users Only!
AuthType Basic
order allow,deny
allow from all
<Limit GET>
require user User1
</Limit>
.htpasswd
User1:encryptedpswdhere
Thanks,
Patrick

The missing quotes are probably what is causing your

You might need to edit your /etc/httpd/conf/access.conf file to say
"AllowOverride All" instead of 'AllowOverride None' down at the htaccess
configuration section.. Try changing it from what you have currently..
After you edit that, you'll have to restart apache:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart
Also, same kind of thing was driving me crazy one day.. then i realized
that since i had copied the .htaccess and .htpasswd from another 'site' on
the raq, i hadn't changed the 'sitex' line in the .htaccess.. i had looked
at it, but didn't register that it was pointing to the wrong dir..
Hope this helps a little..

I believe it may be the spaces in the AuthName field that are giving you
trouble. Try Authorized_Users_Only! or try putting it in quotes (i.e.
'Authorized Users Only!' )
Brian

Subject: [cobalt-users] PostgreSLQ problem
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi list,
I've got a rather strange problem on one of my RaQ3s: Postgres has stopped,
making the GUI useless, and whenever I try to manually kick-start it, I get
the following errors:
[root@xxxxxxxxxxx init.d]# ./postgresql start
Setting up PostgreSQL: FATAL: StreamServerPort: bind() failed: Permission
denied
Is another postmaster already running on that port?
If not, remove socket node (/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5583) and retry.
/usr/bin/postmaster: cannot create UNIX stream port
Any idea what this is, or what would cause it?
Cheers,
Dave

There is no running NTP server shipped with Cobalt products. The UI allows
time to synch via ntpdate but it isn't running any NTP server program.
[root /etc]# chkconfig --list xntpd
xntpd 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off
[root /etc]#

The only question I have is WHY ?
If all you want is a low cost web server, why not just install RH linux and
compile apache (pretty simple in concept)
WHY ?

Yep.

Nope.
Just copy the /etc/named/records file from the old server to the new one,
open the GUI and save the DNS settings..

Take a look at http://www.atdot.org/ to see what you're in for. Unless your
user has tons of space, he won't have room for many accounts. This is the
type of thing a server owner/operator usually runs, not a hosting client.
As far as running the script on a different server, I don't think that's
easily set up because of permissions. It might be a security problem.
