The EASIEST way in the world to let users see their sites before the
domain name propogates!!!
Hi guys! Long time no hear from!
I was just sniffing around on how to do shared SSL (I know, naughty
me) and I came across a great explanation from Duncan, modified
slightly by Rocky Hetherington.
Taking what I learned from them, I made a little deduction and gave it
a try... and about fell off of my chair.
1. Backup your httpd.conf file.
2. In your main site's block in the httpd.conf file, add this line:
AliasMatch ^/sites/([^/]+)(/(.*))? /home/sites/$1/web/$3
3. Save the file and exit.
4. Restart the httpd server.
5. Go to www.yourmainsite.com/sites/www.any-site-on-the-server.com in
your browser
TADA!!
Ain't it cool?!?
Okay, this is on my RaQ4r. Your mileage may vary, but it should work
for you, too.
This is important to me, as I've had to take DNS off of my box and
have been having trouble with the normal way of doing "look before
propogation" stuff ever since (I would add an A record of
theirdomain.mydomain.com to my DNS and then put
theirdomain.mydomain.com in their web aliases box on the Raq4 site
settings - worked fine before I had to use a different DNS that isn't
on my box, now it bounces users to their domain - wherever they're
moving from. Ack.)
Anyhow... thought you guys would appreciate this little tip... enjoy!
(And remember, any changes to the main site's site settings through
the GUI will most likely wipe out this line in the httpd.conf, so
you'll need to go back in to the httpd.conf and re-add it after making
changes to the main site through the GUI.)

(with much thanks to Rev. Payne for posting this for me)
