I must admit to recognising the symptoms.. but would plead mitigation based
on the inordinate volume of mails in my box recently.. One just hoped that a
single post on the matter from someone not involved may put the fire out,
saving time wasted peering through the flames, thereby allowing efficient
reciprocal learning to proceed.. I believe however that my frustrations may
have gotten the better of me..

I too appreciate concise answers (and questions.!) where possible, but it's
not always an option..

Some days the noise on this list has exceeded the signal by many decibels -
sometimes "keeping people on topic" costs more in static than it creates in
gain..

Having lectured (comms) at college level I know how frustrating off topic
queries can be, as can inconsistent presentation, non adherence to
guidelines etc.. indeed, there were times when I could have screamed, (at
least) but as adults we should recognise a fait accompli when we see one..

Hundreds of new list members will appear every hour of every day, it is
impossible to "police" them all indefinitely.. it's better to "educate
them" - a few simple but nice words of advice as opposed to curt comments
and criticisms usually worked for me.. it's not so much what you say but how
you say it.. and if that doesn't work then I'll usually try sarcasm.!

I don't think I am far away from your stance on this Dan, it's just that I
really do value my time, 40% flames from a daily average of 200 mails means
we do need police, and they should be out looking for the time thieves..
I really do enjoy reading the many and varied useful posts on this list, but
I don't think I should be forced to read anything else..

In an effort to recover some of the hours lost in the fire I propose no
further response in this matter..

The quality and quantity of your input indicate you have the intellect to
recognise there will be different perspectives on many list related matters,
I personally have no issue with your concise delivery methods, just that
those who do keep filling my mailbox with junk.. a teeny weeny compromise
here and there could save hours of mails a week.. it's not weak to
compromise, honest..

Please don't answer them anymore.! Think of the time you'd save..
