Hello,
To disable networking and only use Unix Sockets, recompile MySQL with:
./congifure xxxxxx --skip-networking
Where xxxxxx is your usual configuration params.
Note: This will disable all connections to port 3306 and also it takes
away the valuable feature "Replication" where the a second MySQL server
need to make connection to the master server for synchronization stuff.
If you have only one server and only allow local connection, use the
above, it's faster and much more secured.
