What OS are they running? 7.6? 8.5?

What happens if you make TCP/IP inactive and then active again on one 
of the Macs? I'm wondering if they're just expiring the DHCP lease 
and due to other network issues, they're not getting an address back 
in time.

D'oh.. the new MacOS X Server is an amazing product.. oh well, you'll 
get a way cheap upgrade price if you've just purchased 6.3.3 (which 
is also a nice product, I'm happy with it)
