If you have time, give it a try and post your findings. The original poster
didn't didn't go into specifics so I assumed that user home directories
didn't need to change and that the site was controlled by the poster, not
another person. If the poster wants to change the home directory for a
user, the passwd file will have to be edited. And of course, after any
change to httpd.conf Apache has to be restarted to load the changes.
Personally, I prefer to setup independent virtual sites, instead of pointing
sites to directories of an existing site since it doesn't improve
performance and causes more headaches than it solves.
