I don't get it. If people don't act friendly towards each other and
chat a bit, the other people bitch and talk about how everyone's so
'high and mighty' with attitudes to match.
If people try to be friendly and partake in a community-like
atomosphere, the other people bitch and talk about how there's too
much chatter and make snide little insults whilst looking down their
noses. As if.

You can't have it both ways, people.
