[cobalt-users] Help With Qube 2700WG

Good day!

I am something of a newbie, but unfortunately I could not find any information that will solve this problem. If anyone on the list can provide any suggestions or solutions, I would be very appreciative.

I purchased a secondhand Cobalt Qube 2700WG with the understanding that the telnet service did not work. Attempting to enable it via the web-page administrator crashed the Qube. As it turned out, the FTP service was also damaged; attempting to enable it crashed the Qube as well.

I contacted Cobalt, who recommended an OS Restore CD. They were on the whole supportive though it took ages to get a CD. (In their defense, I called right at about the time Sun was acquiring them, so things were probably pretty wonky in their offices.) I finally recieved it, installed a NetGear FA312TX EtherNet card on my PC and booted the PC from the CD. No problems so far. The card was detected (I spotted no error messages) and the system boots clear to the license agreement, (to which I agree =) then to the instructions page (from which there is no escaping out of. This appears to be normal, but if it is not, please let me know! The Restore CD is rather bereft of information as to what to do other than 'Boot up a PC from the CD then fire up the Qube.')

I turned on the Qube while holding down the left and right buttons, and 'Net booting' appeared in the display, as it should... but then it just sits there. The link light is on (I am using a new crossover cable to connect directly between the PC and the Qube) but there is no network traffic, no activity on either the PC or the Qube, and the Qube most certainly does not restore.

I figured I should try here first, in case someone has run into a similar problem and has a solution that doesn't appear in the KnowledgeBase. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
