Yes, you can certainly do it that way round.

But a word of warning, if you (or anyone hosting on your server) use the
same server to send email through (or use your own DNS on your client) AND
you intend to email someone on the domain that is going to move, then the
email will likely be delivered locally and not reach them on their existing
server. It's something that often catches people out when receiving hosting
clients - get an alternative email address for them :-)
