I found the problem and fixed it on my own.

Subject: .htpasswd troubles
List,
I've set-up password protect sites before, but this time I accidentally
used the following command on a directory where I hadn't already created a
.htaccess file:
/usr/sbin/htpasswd -c /home/sites/sitename/.htpasswd username
I now receive an "Internal Server Error" when I try to access that
directory. I've deleted the .htpasswd fine and checked that there still is
no .htaccess file. I still get the error.
What can I do to restore that directory as a regular accessible site?
Thanks for your help. If possible, CC a copy of your response to my address
as I am a digest member.
