You *can* add new sites and make changes... the GUI just won't know
about it, won't recognize it, and will overwrite it. ;)

Not so fast... search the archives for "shell tools" and you'll be
pleasantly surprised. There is a package which does this and adds the
information to the Cobalt GUI as well.

There may also be a package that reinstalls the GUI. As for myself, I
would have suggested that you disable it first (by not starting the
service) rather than deleting it. Until you are 100% sure that things
work perfectly, non-undoable actions are, well, non-undoable.

Well, you have not mentioned actually telling Linux to listen on that
IP. You've only mentioned DNS, HTTP, and FTP services but not
networking. This might be why. Still, I wouldn't bother going to all the
trouble you're going to. My particular choice would have been to protect
the admin interface with SSL and keep using that, with judicious use of
the shell tools when I wanted to.
