You can even add the virtual sites onto the master IP if you want to, but I
put mine on a different one just for organization.
You can put *all* of your virtual sites onto one IP. A site only needs its
own IP for three reasons:
1. They want to check out their site on the web before the domain name
resolves. (You can easily work around this, do a search in the archives.
It's especially easy if you're on a RaQ4 - no httpd.conf hacks needed, just
add 'web aliases' and then a corresponding DNS record.)
2. They want SSL on their site, either self-signed cobalt generated or
retail certificate.
3. They want anonymous ftp on their site. (Not a good idea with the haqs
going 'round.)
An IP can only have *one* site on it with anonymous ftp or ssl (the same
site can have both).

Lennie wrote great instructions but I just want to clarify what he's telling
you here.
The checkbox is for a reverse dns record, also known as a PTR. It is for
when someone types in the IP address itself rather than a domain name. Your
machine will check it's index to see what site it should serve up as being
the 'official' site for that IP.
You don't want to do reverse dns records for virtual sites, since there is
more than one site on the same IP. You'll just be confusing and slowing down
your machine. Set the reverse record for the 'main' domain on that IP (like
your web hosting site) and then don't do reverse records for any other sites
you add on that IP.
I think that was clear as mud. I've been laminating badges tonight and the
hot wax smell is kinda funky. ;)
