Not bad for a standalone device, and you have a unit cost of $30.00/GB.
However, if you have another server nearby:
* Promise SuperTrak 100 RAID-5 Controller for $450
EIDE bundled with 3 drive cartridges
* Three (3) Maxtor 80 GB drives $750
========
Total Cost: $1,200
This way you get 160GB of usable RAID-5 space for a unit cost of
$7.50/GB and a savings of 75%. Of course, this is storage only and not
the entire NAS device, which affects the costs! However, I have a couple
of servers always on, which means this is for me a better investment.
Just an idea for people to consider.
