*Someone* should have a single PTR record created for each IP address on
the Internet, as I understand things. However, that someone may not be
you since in some cases your upstream is handling things. If you are in
charge of handling reverse DNS, you *should* have one and only one PTR
record for each IP address.
Restating: you can have multiple A/CNAME records pointing to one IP, but
only one PTR per IP. And yes, that one PTR should be there.
I don't have the knowledge to explain why that should be so, but it has
been repeatedly impressed upon me by people who clearly know more than I
that this should be so. For the moment, I'm operating on faith here.
