[cobalt-users] corrupt file names / appletalk

Hello Everyone,

I have a Cobalt Qube2 that has what appears to be a small problem with
corrupted filenames.

*Here at the school I work at we use the Qube as an AppleShare server (among
other things). In the last week or so, people have been complaining that
some of their files have been converted to Simpletext documents. (For you
Windows people out there, Simpletext is like Notepad)

*The document has the correct name when viewed on the Mac, but when I telnet
in to the Qube and look at the file, the name is corrupted. For example, the
file "French Class Test" might appear as "Fren8 xlass Te897".

*I have renamed some of the files using the "mv" command, and for one file
this worked. The proper icon came back and all was well. But unfortunately,
that trick only worked on that one file.

*I also ran fsck on that volume, which corrected a few errors, but not the
filename problem.

*The teachers can still access the files as is, but there are tons of
formatting characters mixed in with their text.

*Can anyone help?

Thanks!
