Guys, although I understand how you feel, I'm not sure your conclusions
are entirely accurate.
I am usually 250 posts behind, with about 50 more that I want to
research, bookmark, or answer left as "unread" in my mailfolder for this
list. I work my tail off for about 14 hours a day, and I leave my
non-critical mail (family, personal, this and 14 other lists) until very
late at night when I'm in bed, or in someone's car, or at a restaurant
at lunch, or in a plane... plenty of cases when I am *not* connected to
the Internet.
I have several times tried to contribute/visit/consult alternate support
mechanisms other than this list, and it's a bitch. The bottom line is
that 80% of the effort I devote to this list is offline, and thus my
attempts to participate in/contribute to fora and databases have been
for naught.
Having been on the list for a while now, I don't even search the
archives anymore... with over 23,000 email messages from this list
stored on my notebook's hard drive, I have my *own* archives.
I complain rarely, and try to do something positive, as you say... but
for me, this list is the optimal way for me to participate in this
community. Just the way it is... don't take a lack of participation in
your efforts the wrong way, I suspect that many list-members share my
situation. Others were just born to bitch, I suppose, but that's likely
the small-but-loud minority.
