I think this has been covered a number of time before, so you may want to look back into these archives !
But to get you started,
1&2    Create a "A" record for  smtp.thedomain.com  &  pop3.thedomain.com, and providing mail currently works, change incomming (on your email client) to pop3.....  and outgoing to smtp.....
3      Install the software for "POP Before SMTP Relaying 4.0.7"
im guessing you have a raq3, and if so visit: http://emea.cobalt.com/support/download/raq3.eng.html
if not, visit your downloads page at Cobalt, and look for a similarly named software update (late february I think)
