Oh yeah I unzipped it and untared it, I have burned .iso images
before and have never had a problem, as I said this one does
burn to CD, but it will not boot, it will not mount under Linux or
a Mac, and under windows the CD works but when I go to list
the files on it under explorer the CD is empty. I do get an error
when I first try to burn the image, something about "Invalid Block
Size" and then it gives me 2 options, "Correct" or "Ignore" I have
burned the CD using both options and it doesn't work.

I'm really at a loss without this CD too, I ordered one from Cobalt
but who knows how long it will be before I get it.
