[cobalt-users] Raq1 randomly shutting down email service since upgrades installed

Hello all - I am a 1st timer so please be gentle.

I have the dubious honor of being one of the 5 owners of a Raq1 with a Miva
Engine installed from the factory. The unit was wonderful and ran perfectly
until Cobalt started issued sendmail "fixes" and upgrades over the past few
months. I have installed all the listed upgrades from Cobalt and have been
plagued by random mail server shutdowns for about 8 weeks. Over the past 2
weeks the longest the server functions is 10-12 hours; the shortest is a
shutdown every 45 minutes throughout this entire past week ( tis still going
on ).

Cobalt Technical support says it is nothing they have done although the
admit that they have limited knowledge because of only "5" being shipped.

I have contacted MIva and they indicated that it would be unlikely to be a
MIva problem since it is Sendmail software that appears to be the source of
the issue.

Sendmail was very gracious and admitted that even though they license
Sendmail to Cobalt and support Cobalt -they do not support Cobalt users.

I at first thought the problem may have been related to the log creation &
rotation system as the period of shutdown at first seemed to follow the
creation and rotation of the server logs. When I tried creating logs for
longer periods the server stayed up almost an identical period. I finally
tried turning off the logs and the server worked well till last Monday when
it began doing what I described at the beginning of the letter.

Anyone have any idea for helping me resolve this problem - Cobalt suggested
upgrading to Raq2 OS and I have purchased the CD-ROM but I need to solve the
email issue now for clients and then migrate everyone to a new Raq4r as time
allows.
