hey thanks for this, you spooked me so much that i worked out
what it was all about, after doing the ls upload, etc.
the directory site3 was world-writeable. this was the problem.
there was no .forward.www file, but investigation via google
revealed that sendmail takes on the role of warning you if a
directory on the way to the .forward file is world-writeable.
apparently there is a sendmail.cf option "DontBlameSendmail"
which when set ignores this.
