As a beneficiary of his words or wisdom, I heartily agree.

Standard etiquette on another list of which I am a member is
Offense 1) is a freebie
Offense 2) politely worded, off list e-mails from whoever cares to say
anything
Offense 3) killfile
Not that you have to do it just that way; but we've got more or less 99.99%
relevant traffic with 8,000 plus subscribers. Having a policy and enforcing
it is most of the battle.
