Sorry, I can't think of anything else, and I must say that it's hard to
believe
your hosting provider would charge you to reset the password from the front
panel.

Are you absolutly sure you are not missing something.
When you change the password in the GUI, You are on the section that says:

WARNING! This page modifies the password of administrator.
You will need to remember this password in order to access any of the Cobalt
server adminstration capabilities.
After changing the password, you may need to authenticate yourself through
the web browser with the new password.

Pay attention to the last sentence! Did you close the web browser, reopen it
and log back on to http://www.mydomain.com/admin?
