this problem drove me nuts when I first got my Qube, it seems md5 passwords
were not treated correctly by the web interface. I had admin's password set
at 15 characters, and could not su to root. I changed it to an 8 character
password in the web interface and then could su fine. from the shell I could
passwd to the 15 character password just fine. *shrug* odd error, not sure
if it helps you.

Actually my problem is a bit different. When I changed my admin password via
the web interface, my root password changed and I now can NOT su to root, so
there are many things I can't do like restarting the web server (which I
need to do now.)
