Hello all,
with interest I have read the posts coming on this topic regarding
streaming,
and in my opinion the topics being discussed are relevant and although I
have reasons (performance and cost based)
top opt for the FREE Real Time Streaming Protocol Server supplied by
Apple which supports up to 1000 concurrent users,
yes the technique of hint tracking will cost a measly sum off dollars to
upgrade your QT4 to Pro if you havent any other software, but after
seeing the following progrsam appear on a PC I run after, I believe (for
the lawyers out there), installing Windows Media Player to prep some
content for a client, maybe us content developers and distributors should
keep an eye on what we are getting our viewers to install.
Try a search for RPCSS.EXE in Yahoo,
gave me a spook!
If anyone knows about this or similar issues I would be interested.
To date I have heard not a single shred of security related issues tied
to the QT based streaming method.
Oh and by the way, cached based streaming is history, RTSP is the way
a user disconnects, the stream disconnects,
we dont want to be serving a hundred deaf ears for 2 mins while the
protocol time out, and we dont want our page viewers to be turned away
because their connection is too slow to connect to a page in the reduced
time out time.
With regards to my previous posting, yes other methods may suit depending
on your needs,
possibly my perception of streaming media in a 'broadcast' type role does
not cover all aspects or environments,
but boy am I gonna have a go at playing round with this,
just remembered I need some eye catching adds on a site on a RAQ so I
will install and keep anyone interested up to date!
