Well, I'm sure I'll be called to task for not doing this the "nice" way,
but I'm 20 years into Unix, so sue me:
1) Telnet in
2) su to root
3) /sbin/shutdown -h now
Or, if you're REALLY old school:
1) Telnet in
2) su to root
3) sync; sync; /sbin/halt
(the last method there was for the benefit of us old folks who still
remember what "BOOT 14114" means).
