[cobalt-users] Various server not responding messages

This morning, I am having several rather severe problems
with my Raq3i hosted with Interliant. This is the first
time in nearly 4 months with them that anything like this
has happened. The symptoms are:

1) Web server appeared not to be working when I first tried
to access it this morning. this applied to both the admin
interface and virtual sites. After about an hour, these became
(and have remained) available, it is not clear if this is as
a result of anything Interliant has done, as their usually good
dedicated hosting support staff does not work on Saturdays.

2) The more pressing problem is that the following services
cannot be started: smtp, telnet, ftp, imap. I have tried forcing
restarts of the individual services as well as a reboot of the
entire machine via the web interface but the result remains the
same. I have gotten scattered e-mail messages sent by the machine
that all read exactly the same:

> The <service> server appears to be down. Within the Cobalt server
> Control Panel, try turning the service off and then on again to see
> if this corrects the problem. If not, try rebooting the server itself.
> If this still does not correct the problem, contact Cobalt Technical
> Support.

where service is one of the following: smtp, ftp, telnet, imap
I've received anywhere from 2 to 4 messages on each of these.

I'm not sure if its related or not; but Interliant had a switch go bad
and need to be replaced last night @10pm. The fix took approx 3 hours as
far as I can tell. Because of the timing of this event, my operating
theory is that these two are related. Perhaps the Raq has saved some state
information that is no longer valid when it goes to restart these services.

I have tried the following:
Checked to insure this is not a resource problem, it does not
appear to be as far as the web admin interface is concerned.

Checked the list archives for something approximating this
situation and come up empty handed.

Interliant Technical Support who are supposedly looking into it; but
for reasons mentioned above I am not optimistic for a solution this
weekend.

At this point, ideas, suggestions, experiences and Hail Marys would
all be appreciated.
