[cobalt-users] [Raq3] Server-side Includes and "XBitHack"

Folks:

I have enabled "Server-Side Includes" on several of my virtual sites (name-based, same IP address). Looking at the Apache config file (httpd.conf), I noticed that a couple of these sites have the "XBitHack" turned on, but I don't remember doing this. On one of the sites, I manually added the line "XBitHack on" and saved the change (I did this as "root", of course), but the SSI's still don't work without the ".shtml" extension on the file. What's up?

I checked the list archives about this and only found a couple of posts about a year ago. One suggested using a ".htaccess" file with the XBitHack command in that file. Another suggested adding ".html" to the Server-parsed line in the Apache Config file. However, Apache doesn't recommend doing this as it apparently puts quite a load on the server when it has to parse all of the files. (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/howto/ssi.html)

The Apache docs suggest that only the XBitHack line (inside of the <Virtual> tags) needs to be used, followed by the Telnet command "chmod +x <filename>" to set the executable bit for that (or those) file(s).

Anybody know if my Raq3 needs some other magic to enable SSI's with a standard ".html" extension? I've added ALL of the Cobalt updates to my Raq, BTW.

	TIA
